â€Å"School is tedious and insignificant† was a phrase I said everyday. In my freshman year, I scored well in the first semester. Maybe it was because it was my first semester of high school and I wanted to excel. My grade point average was a 4.3 and I was walking down a good path with a bright future up ahead, but in the second semester, I got bored of school. I simply lost all the motivation to work. I would procrastinate in finishing my assignments, and at times leave my assignments incomplete. My grades started to decline and I started to become a lackadaisical student. The second semester ended and I received a â€Å"B† on my report card. This was the first time in my life to score a â€Å"B† in a class. My grade point average dropped to 3.8, and my freshman year marked the worst school year of my life. The decline of my grades was not only caused by my poor work habits, but also by my perspective towards school. I did not realize the importance of educa tion. I took school very lightly and not even once considered the possibility of a horrible future. I would fool myself with the absurd idea that I would open a successful business and as a result I would be among the wealthy. Income Inequality in America Income inequality has been a topic of concern since the 1920’s. Never has it been of bigger concern than now. Since the year 2000, the separation between the haves and have not has widened tremendously. I don’t have issue with those that earn more being taxed more, but I do have an issue with how it is distributed to those that are less fortunate. From what I understand, around 350 people make up the 1% of those that have excessive wealth in our country but don’t quote me on that. Their well didn’t necessarily come from trees it came from intelligence, hard work and perseverance. Then, as the old saying goes, the rich get richer. All in America are offered opportunities to succeed. While those that that have may have inherited their money or been able to attend the finest schools, the great thing about our country is that those that did not have can make their own destiny. Our country offers the best education, access to loans/funds to help pay for education and opportunities for those with entrepreneurial spirit to succeed. So if these opportunities are available, why is it that those that have succeeded need to care for those that have not or wish not to succeed? President of US The President of the United States - this title has come to earn so much honor, as it is considered "the most powerful elected official in the world" (World Book). Some of America's most distinguished men were once presidents, and we recall such great names as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. This prestigious position is not something one is just handed, and when one does obtain it, it is very hard work. In this paper, I will help illustrate the role of the President, and his/her affect on our American Government. The position of President was created during and immediately after the Revolutionary War under laws called the Articles of Confederation. The name itself came from the original name for the chief officer who presided over congress. The first man who had taken this position was George Washington, whose name every American is familiar with. To the position, Washington brought great "courage, prestige, and wisdom" (Schlesinger, 21), and created a sort of legacy for those after him to follow. The legacy was followed, and expanded with men who interpreted the constitution in new ways, and increased the power of the presidency. Presidents such as Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln are examples of this. As America became a world power, the President was given more power. Men like Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and John F. Kennedy then used the position to advance the freedom of our country, and encourage the development of our minds and souls. As time passed, rules and regulations were made to ensure the President's job was for the best interest of this country. For instance, to become President, one must pass some certain legal qualifications set by the Constitution. "The President must be 35 years old, have lived in the United States at least 14 years, and be a natural born citizen" (World Book). These qualifications were set as a means of filtering out some candidates. To serve this nation efficiently, our forefathers believed that you must be older, and of American heritage. These rules were made in protection of the welfare of our country. With the twenty-second amendment came the limit on the President's term of office. The job of the executive departments is to directly administer the federal government, and the independent agencies' job is to conduct the federal programs in many fields.
